ARAMCO Expand Abu Ali Plant

In 2023, EMI was contracted to support ARAMCO’s Abu Ali Plant expansion by delivering a robust PI System infrastructure capable of handling increased operational demands. The project required configuring an extensive number of PI tags—up to 150,000—to ensure comprehensive data acquisition across the expanded facility. Additionally, EMI replicated and deployed 2,000 PI Vision graphics, significantly improving process visualization for operators and decision-makers.

To complement this, EMI developed 150 Excel reports leveraging PI Datalink to provide critical operational insights. Ensuring uninterrupted data flow was paramount, so multiple redundant PI OPC DA Interfaces were configured and connected to redundant OPC servers to guarantee fault tolerance and high availability. The project was executed with close coordination alongside Honeywell and ARAMCO teams, including several critical design reviews to ensure alignment with ARAMCO’s strict quality and design standards.

The system underwent rigorous testing phases culminating in successful Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), confirming the infrastructure’s performance, reliability, and compliance. This deployment has significantly enhanced ARAMCO’s ability to efficiently monitor and control the expanded plant operations through a modern, scalable PI System.
