ARAMCO EXPEC PI Systems Upgrade In 2016, EMI collaborated closely with Saudi ARAMCO to deliver a cutting-edge, enterprise-scale PI System solution for the Exploration and Petroleum Engineering Center (EXPEC), which serves as a pivotal hub for ARAMCO’s upstream data and analytics. The project’s primary focus was to build a robust, redundant PI infrastructure that spans two key locations: the EXPEC Computer Center (ECC) and the Corporate Data Center (CDC). This dual-site deployment was designed to guarantee high availability, resilience, and business continuity, crucial for supporting the kingdom-wide upstream data ecosystem. |

EMI’s role encompassed the end-to-end engineering and configuration of the PI Systems, including setting up high availability (HA) architectures for both PI Servers and the PI Asset Framework (AF). A key part of the project involved migrating vast amounts of historical tag data and integrating legacy Oracle I-Field systems with the new PI infrastructure. Synchronizing data structures across PI AF, Oracle databases, and Active Directory security groups was essential to ensure seamless and secure data access across the enterprise. To maintain data integrity and comply with stringent enterprise security policies, EMI implemented IPsec encryption for all data transmitted between the ECC and CDC locations. Furthermore, EMI enabled PI data exposure to external Oracle systems using relational database interfaces, facilitating enhanced reporting, analytics, and integration with existing corporate applications.
