Nawah Energy Company

Barakah Nuclear Plant PI System Enhancement
In 2019, EMI was awarded a pivotal contract by Nawah Energy Company to enhance and expand the PI System infrastructure supporting the Barakah Nuclear Plant in Abu Dhabi. This project was critical to accommodate the integration of new nuclear reactors coming online, while simultaneously improving the plant’s monitoring, analysis, and visualization capabilities within a highly sensitive and regulated environment.

The scope included migrating and upgrading the existing PI System to support increased data loads and ensure high performance. EMI implemented a high availability (HA) architecture for critical PI Servers to guarantee system resilience and continuous uptime—a non-negotiable requirement for nuclear operations. In parallel, EMI strengthened the security posture of the PI Servers in strict accordance with nuclear industry standards and regulatory guidelines. A major focus was on the design and deployment of an extensive PI Asset Framework (AF) hierarchy that included detailed asset modeling, advanced analysis calculations, Event Frames, and real-time Notifications to enhance operational insight.

EMI also developed interactive PI Vision dashboards to provide Nawah Energy operators with real-time situational awareness and facilitate faster, data-driven decision-making. To ensure smooth knowledge transfer and sustain ongoing system management, EMI delivered targeted training sessions to empower Nawah Energy personnel. The project was executed with minimal operational disruption and successfully completed within the agreed timeline and scope, earning positive feedback from the client.
