Qatar Energy - PI Migration ProjectIn 2024, EMI partnered with Emerson to deliver a major PI system migration and graphic development project for Qatar Energy (QE), covering a range of critical LNG facilities including QG2, QG3&4, WHP7/8/9, CLNG S&L, and CSP. The goal was to modernize QE’s real-time data infrastructure by migrating PI tags, replicating operator graphics, and deploying PI Vision dashboards that mirror the plant’s DCS environments. |
The engagement began with detailed planning and design phases, where EMI gathered system requirements, built the Functional Design Specification (FDS), and developed a custom Symbol Specification Library for consistent graphics replication. Offsite, EMI configured 1,749 PI tags and recreated 192 DCS graphics in PI Vision—ensuring visual accuracy and real-time linkage to the PI Data Archive.
Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) was conducted at Emerson’s facilities, where the PI system was deployed on provided hardware and virtual machines. EMI led the FAT cycle, verifying full connectivity with Emerson OPC servers, validating graphics, and confirming system performance. Following successful FAT, the team transitioned to on-site deployment at QE facilities, conducted Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and finalized the delivery with complete documentation and verified system readiness. This project enhanced Qatar Energy’s operational visibility, standardized its real-time data visualization, and laid a solid foundation for scalable data integration and future digitalization initiatives.
