Dolphin UAE PI System Migration and Upgrade

In 2025, EMI was awarded a comprehensive project to migrate and upgrade the PI System for Dolphin Energy in the UAE. The initiative focused on enhancing data visualization, reporting, and historical data availability by integrating over three years of legacy Wonderware Historian data into the AVEVA PI System. EMI replicated up to 20 legacy DCS graphic displays into PI Vision, mapping them precisely to PI Data Archive points to preserve real-time operational insights.

A scalable PI Asset Framework (AF) hierarchy was built to organize up to 15,000 tags using templates, optimizing system performance without involving complex calculations. Redundant PI Data Archive servers were installed at multiple DMZ zones with synchronized configurations and redundant PI-to-PI interfaces to ensure secure, fault-tolerant data flow.

EMI developed diverse Excel reports using PI Datalink, ranging from simple plant and equipment summaries to complex shift reports, catering to varied operational needs. Rigorous Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) validated the system’s functionality and data integrity, ensuring a smooth transition with minimal operational disruption. Comprehensive SAT documentation was delivered for transparency and future reference. The project resulted in a successful migration and upgrade of Dolphin Energy’s PI System, delivering enhanced operational visibility, reliable and redundant data infrastructure, and improved data accessibility, empowering Dolphin Energy with a robust platform for ongoing monitoring and analysis.
