NAWAH / ENEC PI Vision EnhancementIn 2023, EMI was awarded the important task of enhancing the existing PI Vision displays at NAWAH, located in Abu Dhabi, which is part of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC). The project was driven by the need to improve operational visualization tools, focusing especially on providing management and key stakeholders with clear, actionable insights through better monitoring of critical KPIs. The enhancement aimed to transform the way data was presented and interacted with, making it more intuitive, responsive, and aligned with operational needs. |
The project scope included redesigning existing PI Vision displays to improve their visual appeal, usability, and functionality. This involved introducing interactive elements such as buttons that could trigger write-back commands to Asset Framework (AF) attributes, a feature that enhanced user control and operational flexibility directly from the visualization interface. In addition, advanced visualization capabilities were incorporated by embedding reports and three-dimensional objects within the PI Vision environment, offering a richer and more comprehensive data experience.
A significant challenge was to upgrade these systems without causing any downtime or operational interruptions, as NAWAH’s nuclear facility requires continuous and reliable monitoring. Another critical aspect was addressing performance issues, particularly for users accessing PI Vision on mobile devices, to ensure timely and accurate data display regardless of platform. EMI also developed reusable graphic templates that adhere to NAWAH’s stringent design standards, facilitating faster and more consistent future developments.
Throughout the project, EMI applied best practices in user interface design and system optimization to enhance both the look and feel of the displays and their underlying performance. This holistic approach not only improved user satisfaction and operational efficiency but also ensured that NAWAH’s management teams could rely on PI Vision for accurate, up-to-date information to make critical decisions. The success of this project has set a foundation for continuous improvement in visualization technologies within a high-stakes nuclear energy environment. | ![]() |
