SEC PI System Implementation

– Multiple Sites across KSA
In 2023, EMI was awarded a significant contract by the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to implement PI Systems across seven different power plant sites in Saudi Arabia. This extensive project encompassed detailed site surveys, engineering design, installation, configuration, and commissioning of advanced PI System infrastructure to enhance data acquisition, monitoring, and analysis capabilities at a critical national utility.

The scope included comprehensive site surveys and delivering tailored engineering designs for each plant to ensure all PI Systems met the specific operational requirements. EMI supplied and installed the latest PI software versions and components, including OPC interfaces, system management tools, and buffer subsystems, to build a robust and secure data architecture. Plant PI Collector Servers and DMZ PI Servers were deployed to guarantee high availability and secure data handling. High Availability (HA) Collectives were configured alongside PI-to-PI data replication interfaces to centralize data aggregation and maintain system resilience. Visualization and reporting capabilities were enabled via PI Client nodes running PI ProcessBook and PI DataLink. Throughout the project, EMI addressed challenges related to managing multiple simultaneous site deployments, ensuring software compatibility, establishing secure data flows between different network zones, and delivering comprehensive testing and commissioning within tight timelines.

EMI’s rigorous project management and technical expertise ensured seamless coordination and consistent quality. The project successfully delivered a scalable, secure, and high-performance PI System infrastructure across all seven power plants, significantly improving data availability, integrity, and operational monitoring. The advanced system architecture provided streamlined reporting and visualization for operators and engineers, supporting critical power generation processes. The project was completed on schedule with full client satisfaction and operational readiness.
