Challenges
Managing complex data and AF across multiple countries. Migrating large historical datasets with minimal disruption. Securing data flow between on-premises and cloud environments. Ensuring consistent visualization and reporting standards.
Solutions
Conducted user workshops and detailed design documentation. Installed redundant PI infrastructure with OPC DA/UFL interfaces. Executed rigorous historical data migration and validation. Implemented Data Diode for secure on-premises to cloud data transfer.
Results
Delivered a robust, scalable PI System across Egypt and UAE sites. Preserved historical data for comprehensive analysis. Improved operational visibility with custom dashboards. Enhanced data security and reliability with redundant systems.
Fertiglobe AVEVA PI Implementation and Engineering Services
In 2024, EMI was awarded a comprehensive multi-site contract by Fertiglobe to implement and engineer AVEVA PI Systems across their operations in Egypt and the UAE. This extensive project involved deploying PI infrastructure both on-premises and in the cloud, migrating up to 10 years of historical data from legacy systems, and developing detailed PI Asset Framework (AF) hierarchies and tailored PI Vision dashboards. The aim was to significantly enhance operational visibility, data management, and secure data exchange between geographically dispersed sites.

EMI conducted thorough requirements gathering workshops with end users to define functional and system specifications. The project scope included installation and configuration of redundant PI servers and OPC DA/UFL interfaces on dedicated virtual machines, standardizing tag naming conventions for up to 25,000 tags, and ensuring seamless integration across multiple plants. A critical element was the secure transfer of data from on-premises to cloud environments via Data Diode technology, balancing data security with operational accessibility. Rigorous Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) ensured system reliability and user readiness before full deployment. |
The project faced challenges such as managing large volumes of data and complex AF structures across multiple countries, migrating substantial historical datasets with minimal downtime, and coordinating between different system architectures. EMI addressed these through planning, robust infrastructure setup, validation processes, and close collaboration with client teams to deliver a scalable, secure, and high-performance PI environment that meets Fertiglobe’s operational demands.
